• As per legend, when Goddess Sati immolated herself during the Yagna of her father Daksha, Lord Shiva carried her body in grief. To calm him down, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to cut her body into 51 parts, which fell across different locations on Earth.
• It is believed that Sati’s eyes (Naina) fell at this place, and hence the temple is called Naina Devi Temple.
• The temple has been a center of faith for centuries. The original shrine was believed to have been built in the 15th century, but it was destroyed during a landslide in 1880 and later rebuilt.
