Location:

  • Madhyamaheshwar is situated at an elevation of about 3,497 meters (11,473 feet) above sea level in the Garhwal Himalayas.

Panch Kedar:

  • Madhyamaheshwar is one of the five Kedar temples, collectively known as Panch Kedar. The other four temples are Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpeshwar. Each of these temples is associated with different parts of Lord Shiva’s body.

Madhyamaheshwar Temple:

  • The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Madhyamaheshwar, which means the “middle” or “second” aspect of Shiva. It is believed to be the place where the navel (madhya) of Lord Shiva appeared.

Access:

  • Reaching Madhyamaheshwar involves a trek from Ukhimath or Ransi. The trek is scenic and passes through picturesque landscapes and forests.
  • The temple is generally open to pilgrims during the summer months, from May to October.

  • A trek from Madhyamaheshwar also leads to Pandu Sarovar, a high-altitude lake surrounded by snow-clad peaks. It is associated with the Pandavas of the Mahabharata.
