Introduction:- Chopta, often called the “Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand”, is a peaceful hill station and trekking base located in the Garhwal Himalayas. Perched at an altitude of 2,680 meters, it offers mesmerizing views of the Himalayan ranges including Trishul, Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, and Kedarnath peaks. Its untouched beauty, fresh mountain air, and serene atmosphere make it a paradise for trekkers, photographers, bird lovers, and spiritual seekers alike.
Chopta situated on the Gopeshwar-Ukhimath Road about 40 kms. from Gopeshwar is at an altitude of about 2,900 m above sea level. One of the most picturesque spots in the entire Garhwal region, Chopta provides a breathtaking view of the Himalayan ranges and the surrounding areas.

While in monsoon it is covered with lush greenery and the tourists can enjoy the sip of tea, gazing at the snow capped peaks at Chopta during monsoons. Sometimes due to landslides the roads get blocked. Raincoats are mandate in monsoon. During winters the region is covered with snowfall this place gives a glimpse of mini Switzerland. The major attractions at this place are Tungnath Mandir, Chandrashila, Gopeshwar, Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary, Ukhimath and Deoria Tal.
Geography & Landscape:- Chopta is surrounded by lush green alpine meadows (bugyals), dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and deodar, and snow-covered peaks in winter. The area is part of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, home to rare Himalayan flora and fauna.

1. Tungnath Temple – Approx. 3.5 km trek from Chopta
Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world at 3,680 meters. It is one of the sacred Panch Kedar temples and is believed to be more than a thousand years old. The trek from Chopta to Tungnath passes through lush meadows and blooming rhododendron forests in spring, with breathtaking mountain views throughout.
