ABOUT MADMAHESHWAR

The temple at an altitude of 3289m is located on the slope of a ridge 29 kms northeast of Guptkashi. The trek starts from Uniana. The temple here contains a superb Har-Gouri statue. The trek further takes one to Ransi, which has a very old temple, low and built of stones entirely. Gaundar at the confluence of Madmaheshwar Ganga & Markanda Ganga is the Madmaheshwar temple and its associated dharamshala.
The entire trek from Uniana to Madmaheshwar is distinguished by wild unparallel scenic beauty in the full view of Chaukhamba, Kedarnath and Neelkantha peaks all along the route. Monal Pheasant and Kasturi Deer abound in the area.
