Tour Plan

On the first day, we travel from Dehradun to Gangotri, covering 240 km in about 8-9 hours. Gangotri, at an altitude of 3,100 meters, is a small town and holds great religious importance as the starting point of the Ganges river. Trekkers spend the day exploring Gangotri, visiting the Gangotri Temple, and getting used to the higher altitude. It's a day of rest and acquainting ourselves with fellow trekkers who come from around the world to experience the natural beauty and spirituality of the trek.

On the second day, we begin our trek from Gangotri, walking alongside the Bhagirathi river. The trail is mostly flat, passing through dense pine and deodar forests. The sound of the river accompanies us, and glimpses of the surrounding mountains peek through the trees. We reach our first campsite at Chirbasa (3,600 meters), named after the abundance of chir pine trees. The campsite offers stunning mountain views, and the evening is spent relaxing and acclimatizing to the higher altitude.

The third day involves a short but steep ascent to Bhojbasa (3,800 meters). The trail continues along the Bhagirathi river, providing stunning views of towering mountains. Bhojbasa's campsite is located at the foot of the Gangotri glacier, offering a distant view of the glacier and the Bhagirathi peaks, bathed in golden light during sunrise and sunset.

The highlight of the trek is on the fourth day as we visit the source of the Ganges at Gaumukh. The trail is steep and rocky, including a stretch across the Gangotri glacier. After reaching Gaumukh, trekkers can take a dip in the icy-cold water, offer prayers, and proceed to Tapovan (4,335 meters). The route from Gaumukh to Tapovan involves a short but steep climb, taking about 2-2.5 hours. We set up our camps at Tapovan, enjoying majestic views of Meru peak, Bhagirathi I, II, III peaks. Tapovan serves as the base camp for Shivling and Meru, offering grand views.

On the fifth day, wake up early to witness the spectacular sunrise over Shivling, Bhagirathi peaks, and Meru. Tapovan, known for its stunning natural beauty and spiritual significance, allows trekkers to spend the day soaking in the sights and sounds. The iconic Shivling peak is a highlight, and many trekkers explore its base or meditate in its shadow.

This day involves a long descent from Tapovan to Chirbasa, covering over 10-11 km. Since it's downhill, it won't take as much time as the ascent. Enjoy a packed lunch en route and reach Chirbasa by late afternoon. Camp under the starry skies at Chirbasa.

Retrace the trail back to Gangotri, following the Bhagirathi river. Check into hotel rooms in Gangotri, take a hot shower, and rest for the night.

After breakfast, embark on the drive back to Dehradun. It's a long journey of about 10 hours. Around 1-1.5 hours before reaching Uttarkashi, make a stop at Gangnani for a dip in the natural hot water sulphur springs. Reach Dehradun by 7-8 PM, concluding the trip.
